The Japanese Association for Death Study and Bereavement Support
was established in 1982. Its aim is to provide an opportunity for those
who have lost close ones to share genuinely their experience of bereavement
and grief, matters and issues which are not commonly discussed in public.
The Association has grown progressively, operated entirely by volunteers
since its foundation 22years ago.
The contemporary society in which we live is apt to emphasize material
culture. Most of us tend to give little attention to the fact that life
ends in death. The aim of the Association is to provide a forum available
to all through which the issues of living and dying can be approached
and studied, and action taken where necessary. Those who are troubled
and seeking an environment in which they can share painful experiences,
those who wish to contemplate more deeply the death which no-one can
escape, will be able through the many occasions provided by the Association
to make lasting contact with others of like mind, and enrich their understanding.
